Abstract: This research piece could be described as both an exploration of possibilities for facing the global employment crisis; as well as an exploration of the different ways we can build alliances in the employment context. Contributing to Degrowth discourse around methods for the growth of the amateur economy, this short presentation will focus on the possibility of strengthening worker cooperatives. The paper proposes utilizing union law and regulation in order to forge connections amongst cooperative employment groups, as well as a method for strengthening fair and equitable employment contexts for employees working in a co-operative context. Utilising legal rules and regulation concerning employment, particularly employment security, is an opportunity for surety in the degrowth movement. This research presentation will look at these issues in relation to the Canadian context, with opportunities to explore relevant issues and parallels to the European context.
